Your assignment is to complete ONE of the following projects based on the novel.
This is a 100 Point Assignment—these demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the entire novel.
* Create a news article about the novel. The newspaper article should provide insight into how the characters survived the trip.
* Re-write one or two chapters of the novel in comic book form. You should remain true to any physical or setting descriptions as well as characters and plot. The graphic book must include imagery from the original novel as well as tone, mood, and theme.
* Write a series of letters that 2 main characters in the novel might have written to one another during the course of the entire novel. The letters must contain the tone of the characters and demonstrate the mood of the text. They must also include imagery from the novel and hint at the theme of the novel. You should have at least six letters.
* Make puppets, finger puppets, or masks representing at least three of the main characters of the novel. Then create a script that relates to these characters. The script must include the tone and mood of the novel and include imagery from the novel as well as a hint to the theme of the novel.
* Create a Power Point Presentation with a slide for each of the main characters. Create an IB profile slide for each character. Each slide should include the character, the learner profile, a quote from the novel that reflects the learner profile chosen, and an explanation of why you picked this specific learner profile for this character.
* Select (from an outside source) or write 7 poems/songs that you feel say something about the characters, plot, settings, imagery, tone, mood, and theme of the novel. Explain why you selected or wrote each poem/song.
* Research the actual event that the characters experience in Veera's book: the partition of India in 1947. Include information about how India became free of British Rule, and how this led to the problems that created the need to divide India into two countries: India and Pakistan. Be sure to include information about the types of religions that were in conflict, as well as the conflicts the refugees experienced during their relocation.
